About the Author
Mary Jo Weaver received her Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame. She has been recognized for her contributions with the Indiana University President's Award for Distinguished Teaching in 1998 and the Lily Endowment Grant.
David Brakke earned his Ph.D. from Yale and current serves as the Department Chair for the Department of Religious Studies at Indiana University. Dr. Brakke has been recognized for his teaching with the Indiana University Outstanding Junior Faculty Award in 1996 and has received numerous research grants for his work, including the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship, the National Endowment for the Humanities Research Fellowship for University Teachers, and the American Council of Learned Societies Fellowship.

A great introduction to Christianity, but prohibitively expensive

As a teacher of religion courses, I have encountered the same problem recently: I find the best textbook on a topic that fits the way I want to introduce a topic, but it is prohibitively expensive, and ethically I cannot expect my students to purchase it.
I think this book is great. It is thorough, but not dense. It is well-organized with a nice table of contents. It balances historical perspectives with discussion of modern Christian varieties and practices. Most other introductions to Christianity are solely historical or too simplistic.
But as I said, I can't ask my students to buy this book for $130 or rent it for $30 or so. I'm disappointed that textbook publishers hike up their prices and that it seems like previous editions of Weaver's book, which was published by a different group, are not available to buy used on Amazon or other web sellers. Is Amazon in on the gouging? This book has less than 300 pages and is a paperback. There is no reason why it should cost $130 new.

you'll learn a lot

seller it well packaged and on time,
this is a great book and timeless,
you can still use this book for your class or just for personal study,
i learned a lot about the history of the church and I was born into a Catholic family and learned all this stuff over and over again.
I recommend this to anyone even if they aren't taking the class,
it's very easy to follow and actually made pretty interesting (if you can imagine)

Required for a college course

I bought this for my Christianity class in college and found some things in it really interesting but other things in the book were absolutely boring and and hard to read. Multiple times I found myself getting so confused about what they were saying that I just gave up on the reading. I never read the whole book because it was just too hard to understand.
