Great practical read on perfecting your light

This book is fantastic in may ways: Nick Fancher is a great writer with very direct no-bs-fluff style that makes reading very enjoyable. Information is broken down for easy digest. It made me rethink my approach to what I do with a camera in order to produce rather than capture interesting, innovative and high-quality photographs. Publication is also beautify designed and edited and images and diagrams make it a great tutorial.

About the Author
George F. Carrier (1918–2002) was one of the world’s preeminent applied mathematicians and the T. Jefferson Coolidge Professor of Applied Mathematics at Harvard University. He was honored for his scientific accomplishments by election to the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Philosophical Society. He was the author of numerous papers and books. Max Krook (1913–1985) was Gordon McKay Professor of Applied Mathematics and Professor of Astrophysics at Harvard University. He was widely recognized for his work on stellar and interstellar atmospheres and for his explanations of unusual phenomena in fluids and plasmas. He also was renowned for the invention of several simple models that have given scientists new insights into kinetic theory and statistical mechanics. Carl E. Pearson has a wide variety of experience in both the academic and the professional worlds. He has taught at Harvard, the Technical University of Denmark, and the University of Washington, and he has spent years in industry as well, including work at Arthur D. Little Inc., Sperry Rand Company, and Boeing Aerospace Company. Dr. Pearson is the author of several books, some of them classics in the field of applied mathematics.

Readable

I'd never used this book tom teach complex variables in math methods in physics although I've
owned it for about 30 years. This time I made a lecture from it following the derivation of
the series solution of a linear differential equation for a regular singular point and found that
section to be very good. The book is readable from the start and is highly recommendable for
self-study.

nice contour integration chapter

As the other reviewers have said this book is readable. In fact I would say much more readable than Churchill and Brown (or Brown and Churchill depending upon which edition you have). I was amazed to find a chapter on asymptotics and special functions something I think is unusual in a beginning CV text. Carrier and Pearson's PDE book is also well written but unfortunately lacks references.

If you never seen a complex number before parts 2 and 3 of the 5 volume series by Knopp are an excellent starting point:Theory of Functions, Parts I and II (Dover Books on Mathematics) (Pts. 1 & 2)

For their roles in the birth of modernism, most of the 14 Russian women artists profiled in this profusely illustrated monograph by a Soviet art historian came from far-flung provinces to challenge the overrefined European conventions of Moscow and St. Petersburg. The haunting, turn-of-the-century Symbolist paintings of Maria Yakunchikova were followed by Zinaida Serebryakova's animated realism and by Natalya Goncharova's neoprimitivist fusion of folk art and cubism. Universal War , a series of semi-abstract collages by Olga Rozanova, is a powerful antiwar statement. In the 1920s and '30s as experiment gave way to Socialist Realism, women artists created intimate, poetic yet socially resonant "chamber art." This valuable survey closes with two sculptors, Sarra Lebedeva and Vera Mukhina, who ventured beyond the limits imposed by Soviet bureaucracy to forge personal statements of woman's vitality and her place in society.

If you are interested to know about magick, this book is a good one to read. Practice of magick can help us improve our focus and motivation and invite positivity in our lives. Throughout the class I was struck by how easy you made art to understand. I found each chapter almost like having a conversation with a professor and thought you might like to hear that one student out there very much appreciated the way you approached your writing.

Warning! Don't Buy this Book

Please note that the book said that it comes with an Access Code so that you may gain access to the publisher's site for bonus material. However, it doesn't come with any code. I have tried to get help from the publisher but they said that they can't help because Amazon is a seller and they asked me to seek help from Amazon. Here is Amazon's reply: "I have checked into the promotional offer on the publisher's website. While Amazon.com is an authorized dealer of "World of Art, A (6th Edition) [Paperback]" we are not a participating dealer for this particular promotion."

Great introduction to Art

I bought this book for my school course, but unlike most school textbooks I found it very fun and easy to follow, really well laid-out and beautiful enough to leave on the coffee table for non-students to pick up, thumb through and able to appreciate.

Sayre has Created a Masterpiece

For my Art Appreciation course, I had to read The World of Art by Sayre. I fully enjoyed how Sayre has layed out the content in this textbook. The chapters are fairly long, but the content is very interesting and through. Also, the MyArtsLab that goes along with the book is easy. The online chapter quizzes go along almost completely with the text in the book. I was not a big art lover before this book, but after this course and reading this book, I am now an art lover. Thanks to Sayre, I am well versed in the art world.

True, "the Donald" did devote a dozen pages to his father, Fred, in Trump: The Art of the Deal (1987) and acknowledge him as the most important influence on his life. Interest Is Not Where You Might Expect

The first generation you will read about was never allowed to reach its conclusion, due to an unfortunate early death. The second and third generations of this grandfather, father, and son trio are much longer. The second generation too has recently come to a close after a very long and successful life, in excess of 93 years, and the verdict on the third is still evolving. There is no question where the business acumen was at its greatest, the talent rested with Mr. Fred Trump, the second of the three men, and his story is the one of substance. The grandfather never had a chance to play out what likely would have been a very successful life, but during the time he was a businessman he was creative, bold, and gutsy as any pioneer.
Donald Trump is certainly the most well known, for marketing himself is a large part of whom he is and what he does. He is a man who can only speak in superlatives about anything he is involved in, even if some grand and prominent project bears his name and little else. The name on a building has very little to do with who owns it, who paid for it, or who made it happen. Donald Trump's primary business is Donald Trump. His flair for promotion and obsession with how he is perceived has become his career. There is no question he has had his successful projects, but the question of would they ever have happened without his father is a legitimate one. And he probably would have had much more success and a much larger fortune had he stuck to the business he knew, developing real estate. He got sidetracked with buying an airline, paying absurd prices for casinos that still are far from trophy properties, and while he may have benefited, the holders of stock and various bond issues have not.
Fred Trump is the man you would have given your money to and slept soundly at night. He was an astute man of business, he was self-made, and he spent no time promoting who he was. In this manner he was like many other long time major developers in the NYC area that developed massive amounts of real estate and fortunes to match without having any interest in the world knowing what they were worth.
Forbes Magazine often documents the calls they receive from Donald Trump complaining about where he is listed on their richest people list. This is not something his father or grandfather ever would have contemplated, nor would they brag to anyone listening how they increased their net worth by failing to honor financial commitments. In the end his charismatic style allowed him to get financial institutions so grossly over invested in his view of the world that he could never be allowed to go bankrupt, as the lenders could not afford it.
His predecessors in the family rate much higher on substance, and the newest Mr. Trump rates highly on style. But for all of the perceived satisfaction he would have the public believes he enjoys, in the end the author portrays a man that craves publicity to the detriment of his personal life. Squiring around beautiful women makes for nice pictures, but he and it and getting a bit old.

New York through the lives three fascinating Characters

This is a wonderful book. Ms. Blair has taken a complex and difficult subject and made it exciting and fascinating. The Trumps have always deserved analysis beyond the scandal-sheet treatment they usually get in the press. Ms. Blair has provided an account of all the real adventures behind their successes and failures: political, financial and even personal. After reading this book, one feels that the links between strong individuals and the unfolding of history beome clear and alive. The writing is great, the story even better.

THE FOUNDER, THE BUILDER AND THE STAR

Did you ever wonder how Donald Trump could have been so knowledgable and astute at so young an age. How did he do it? Who taught him? Family that's who. Unbelievably true. Ms Blair's research spans three generations. Friedrich who eventually earned a fortune in Alaska; his son Fred Jr. who made millions from U.S. government housing programs and his grandson, "the Donald" real estate developer and promoter. The book gives us an up close view of Donald Trump's ego, his wives and their role, his survival after near-bankruptcy, his eagerness for publicity and his "midas" touch. The man can close a deal. Well written and fascinating. Once upon a time there was the Rothchilds and the Rockefellers. This era it seems belongs to the Trump Dynasty.

Diffficult read

I choose three stars because this was a difficult read. I noticed the author's first language is German and this was translated to English (possibly through Google Translate). It is not airtight, there are a lot of random German words despite being the alleged English version.

Some of the wording is very confusing as well. The author is very redundant explaining points and sometimes does not finish making his points immediately.

I only suggest this to the advanced reader and not the novice.

Poorly written, lots of spelling and grammatical errors

Although this book is relatively inexpensive, you should look elsewhere and spend a little more on a better book. The writing is full of spelling, typographical, and grammatical errors. The examples laid out are not always easy to follow and I don't feel like I understand a whole lot more than when I began. As one positive, I guess it is slightly better than some of the horrific documentation you'd find on Zend's website.

hard to read

I were new to php web development framework and recently decided to use zend over other platforms. I bought this book because it is the first book on the new Zend Framework 2. but I could not even finish it till today, because it is so hard to read and understand. Having read other book about zend, mostly framework 1, I know this is not a good book, at least not for starters.
