Quantum Transport Theory is a comprehensive account of recent achievements in the understanding of disordered conductors. In addition to detailing the density matrix description of nonequilibrium statistical mechanics, Professor Rammer deals with topics that are new to the field of condensed matter physics, such as: weak localization, destruction of electronic phase coherence in disordered conductors, electron-electron and electron-phonon interactions in dirty metals, scaling theory of localization, the self-consistent theory of localization, and mesoscopic physics. The diagrammatic technique for systems out of equilibrium is developed systematically, and used to study quantum kinetic equations and linear response theory.

Gimmicky, Too-cute approach lacks substance

Sometimes, "a picture is worth a thousand words," IF the meaning is clear.

The entire approach of this study guide is built around the idea that pictures are easier to remember than words, an idea that is not entirely true, especially if the reader is not familiar with all the little ideograms, their assigned meanings - often quite a stretch - and the reasons for placing them in the specific relationships.

The authors are clearly very knowledgeable about CSEP. In the first few pages, they advised that applicants would have to know not only the major processes, etc., but their outputs. That was good information.

If they had simply written a decent study guide, I would have been very happy. Instead, they produced this gimmick-ridden pamphlet.

This study guide should be re-written. The publishers and resellers owe customers an apology.

Not worth the money

Aside from a few tid bits of advice this book was not of much value to me. There are numerous references to the INCOSE SE handbook and only a few substantive paragraphs. The book is very light on content.

The memory aids aren't worth much. Read Tony Butan's book instead.

Don't waste your money. Read the SE handbook. It has all you need.

CSEP Guide Undocumented

The concept on the CSEP guide was good, but lacked enough doucmentation to stand alone. They intended for you to use it with the INCOSE Handbook, but even with that, the guide does not present the diagrams well enough. Another few hours and some support would produce a fisrt rate product.

Beware, it really isn't for dummies at all! Covers a lot of ground / A good primer.

Don't let the "for dummies" part fool you, this book is great even if you've been using SQL for years. I picked this book up because I read reviews saying this is far too advanced for a beginner. I can't speak for beginners, but it was great for me. I'm an intermediate level software engineer, and I have built more than few databases already. However, there are gaps in my knowledge, and I found this book helpful for getting myself more up-to-date with SQL concepts from schema design to performance tuning.

I particularly enjoyed his description of all the standard SQL data types from char, varchar to national char, blob and clob. There are some nuances between various data-types which I was a bit hazy on, but this book cleared that all up. He does a great job explaining things like indexing and how to tune up database queries. He touches on some advanced concepts like EF Codds normal forms, and explains some of the differences, and even tells you which normal forms are too obscure to really be relevant for most database systems. He also explains why de-normalization matters and how to find that "sweet spot" between performance and robustness (resistance to modification anomalies).

If you're not already familiar with RDBMS concepts like relations, attributes, tuples, ER models, and such, this book may be a very valuable read for you. I'm giving this book 5 stars because it gave me exactly what I wanted-- about 640 pages summarizing all the important concepts of SQL, plenty of real life examples, and illustrations as well.

Good guide for beginners

I started reading this book without much knowledge of SQL. My background isn't IT, but I work closely with systems and wanted to learn more on the side to help me with my job. This is a great guide. It's easy to follow and understand, moves along quickly, but it doesn't dumb down the material. Also, the 8 books in one encompass a lot of knowledge about SQL and databases. This is a good resource.

I've been aware of the 'For Dummies' books for years. After several decades in the technology business, it's perhaps understandable why I've shied away from opening one. I'm not a dummy--there are simply things I don't know. But I found myself in the position of needing to know just a bit about SQL. So I donned an appropriate disguise and snuck into the library.

What a surprise. This is an excellent book, sitting astride the area that goes from basic introduction well into hands-on. It's written clearly without a hint of the condescension I feared. It does assume some technical background, but the author has a good sense of where the reader's knowledge is likely to end. I was impressed with the overall organization. It's 8 books (sort-of), with the goal of each well-delineated. Each volume has a clearly stated purpose and is written with a clarity that is rare among technical writers.

For those of us willing to admit an occasional bout of dummyhood, this is a fine antidote.

It seems that the wicked ways of the Mud People (humans) have driven most of the magical creatures underground, where a gritty, urban fairy civilization is flourishing. The fairy characters are mouthy and eccentric, but Artemis is too stiff and enigmatic to be interesting; the story bogs down when the focus is on him. Light, off-beat YA fantasy that can be a bit crude

I actually enjoyed this off-beat little book more than I had expected, considering it has taken me years to getting back to reading it. I originally bought it for a defunct e-reader connected to another store--and I never finished reading it. I started over at the beginning, since it had been so long since I first sat down with it. This is an interesting, quick read. The pacing is pretty good. The story is quite funny and charming at times.

I do wish there had been some formatting differences for the rather frequent point-of-view shifts. Sometimes there was no indicator, such as spacing, asterisks, a divider, etc. There was a lot of "gross-out" content. I really grew a little weary of the dwarf and his flapped trousers... For parents, there is a bit of light swearing consisting of mostly "damn" and "hell" (and a few made-up and implied explicitive phrases). Some may be concerned about the death of a rabbit at the hands of the flap-trousered dwarf.

Overall, this was an entertaining read. I will likely be "back" for book two, once I've cleared up some of my Kindle slush-pile. I don't regret re-purchasing this in Kindle format, at least, it filled a few sessions of light reading for a few days.

A Childhood Favorite

This is a great introduction to Sci-Fi for any kid in love with fantasy. Colfer mixes "real" magic with scientific advancements to create a race of creatures utterly and believably delightful. The snarky and pithy dialogue mixed with potty humor (e.g. a dwarf who eats and digests soil is constantly farting dirt missiles at would-be assailants) is sure to captivate the 9-12 age range of both genders. There is a redemptive quality of the book. There's really only one character (the main female role) that is entirely "good" but nearly every character has positive moral growth even with all the stealing, fighting and poor model behavior throughout.

Every now and then I’m curious to see what I’ve been missing in children’s fictions, and since, I’m very particular about my selections, I’m seldom let down. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this series.

Artemis is a young genius who also happens to be the heir to a criminal dynasty that’s going broke. So Artemis decides to save the family business in the only way he can think of, which is ripping off the fairies that no one believes really exist.

I really liked Butler and Holly. The whole story was really cute, and if you don’t over think it, the little things shouldn’t get you down. I like the idea that the bad guy in this story is a little boy, but I must admit I kept hoping someone would stop to spank him at some point. (Oh no, wonder who I offended with that statement?)

In any case, I don’t think Artemis is a bad boy. I just think he’s a product of his environment, who happens to be desperate and willing to do whatever he thinks is necessary to save his way of life. The story is full of adventure, magic, and oddly enough a little sci-fi.

I recommend this to anyone willing to give it a try.

Indispensable for every serious student of historically-based improvisation

The approach that Pamela Ruiter-Feenstra uses in her book is rather unique among other books on improvisation. It is not only a textbook with exercises but much more than that. The students who will be studying this book will acquire comprehensive knowledge about various 18th century performance practice aspects, such as articulation, fingering, and pedaling etc.

Remarkable is her approach to existing compositions, as models for improvisation and her method of improvisation pedagogy what she calls the cycle of Construction-Deconstruction-Reconstruction. Another feature which I find especially valuable is the overview and a catalogue of rhetorical figures. These melodic, rhythmic, harmonic, formal, and affective figures all have their precise names in Latin or other languages. Especially practical are tables of the two four-note and three note figures with specific names for each one.

I believe the book Bach and the Art of Improvisation is indispensable for every serious student of historically-based improvisation. Not only organists, but also pianists, and harpsichordists will have the benefit in studying the principles given in this book. Even musicians regardless of their instrument, wishing to learn more about historical performance practice will find this book a valuable resource.

Many improvisation manuals pretend to be unabridged, complete, style period correct, but I never found such quality and consistency on this matter, this is a serious and plausible intent to restore the old art of maestro Bach himself,
