About the Author

James E. Mazur obtained his B.A. in Psychology from Dartmouth College in 1973, and his Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from Harvard University in 1977. He taught at Harvard University as an assistant professor and associate professor from 1980 to 1988, and since then he has taught at Southern Connecticut State University, where he is a CSU Professor of Psychology. He has conducted research on operant conditioning and choice for over 35 years. He has published over 60 journal articles and chapters on such topics as reinforcement schedules, conditioned reinforcement, self-control, risk-taking, procrastination, and mathematical models of choice.

This book is very easy to read and understand. I like the logical progression of the book and I think it is great to have for any introductory experimental analysis of behavior class. I look forward to re-reading this textbook this fall for class.

About the Author
Agust� Cerrillo i Mart�nez is a professor of Administrative Law in the Law and Political Science Faculty, Open University of Catalonia (Spain). He is the director of the law studies and of the postgraduate on e-government of the Open University of Catalonia. He holds a PhD (Law) and a degree in law and in political sciences. He has published several books and articles on e-Government and, particularly, on access, diffusion and re-use of public sector information on the Internet. His research is focused on e-government regulation. He is also the team leader of a research group on e-justice.

Pere Fabra i Abat is a professor of Philosophy of Law and the Dean of the Department of Law and Political Science at the Open University of Catalonia (Spain). He holds a PhD in Law and a degree in Philosophy. He was a practicing lawyer for ten years in the field of Administrative Law. Dr. Fabra has been doing research at the J.W. Goethe University in Frankfurt (Germany) and was a Visiting Scholar at the Department of Philosophy at Northwestern University (Evanston-Chicago). He is currently the director of a research project on Transformations of the Law in the Information Society funded by the Spanish Government. With Dr. Cerrillo he led a large study about E-justice in Latin America. He specializes in philosophy of law, epistemology and critical theory.

Kindergarten-Grade 2-- A revised edition of Good Hunting, Little Indian (Harper , 1962). The original version depicted a boy dressed as a contemporary Navajo who dwells in a tipi instead of a hogan, and who goes hunting for game with bow and arrow in a forest setting. Watts' new illustrations correct these errors. The boy is now dressed as a member of the Algonquian group. His parents and other tribespeople are clothed and housed authentically for their Eastern woodland forest. Other present-day sensitivities are also addressed. The word "Indian" is completely deleted; the child is now known as Blue Sky. The mother is now featured as prominently as the father, a slight raising of her status. The illustrations are in pleasing full-color rather than the predominant yellows and browns of the 1962 edition. However, Parish's text has also been altered to fit the "I Can Read" formula. For example, "There was a terrible crashing all around him," has now become, "The noise was all around him." This sort of thing has been called "dumbing down," and there is no good reason for it in this instance. --Ruth Semrau, Lovejoy School, McKinney, Tex.

About the Author
The late Peggy Parish, well known for her stories about Amelia Bedelia, wrote many popular books for children, including Dinosaur Time, illustrated by Arnold Lobel.

"I hate reading but your books are changing my opinion." This letter, from a young Peggy Parish fan, comes as no surprise to the teachers and librarians who have put her books in the hands of children over the years. Ms. Parish wrote nearly three dozen children's books-many of which include her most famous character, the literal-minded maid named Amelia Bedelia.

Peggy Parish knew what children like to read. After graduating from the University of South Carolina with a degree in English, she taught school in Oklahoma, Kentucky, and, for over 15 years, at the well-known, progressive Dalton School in New York City. It was at Dalton that she began to find ways to release her creative ideas and energy, Though she never took a writing course, "writing stories for children came naturally." Her first book, published in 1961, was followed with Let's Be Indians and in 1963 with her unforgettable Amelia Bedelia.

Always involved with education in some way, Peggy Parish did television pieces on preschool education and children's books, wrote children's-book review columns, and led numerous in-service training workshops for teachers. In discussing her ideas about education, she said, "Children's rights are taken away from them when they enter school. What I try to show teachers is that all the skills needed to read can be taught outside of textbooks. Today's children are not going to read what they are not interested in. And if a positive attitude toward reading is not developed during the first three years of school, it is virtually impossible to develop it later."

After living in New York for many years, Peggy Parish returned to her native South Carolina. She died in November, 1988. But Ameila Bedelia did not die. Peggy Parish's nephew, Herman Parish, has written Good Driving, Amelia Bedelia and Bravo, Amelia Bedelia!, published by Greenwillow Books in 1995 and 1997 respectively.

Very fun and a 'different type' of book if you are ...

This was a very unique book about and Indian boy that left out of his home to hunt his family food. It does follow him to 'hunt' but it's not graphic at all. Very fun and a 'different type' of book if you are tired of the same types of books. I did 'tag' this as Thanksgiving but it's not truly a Thanksgiving book, only would be nice to read to your children during that time of season since that seems like the time of year people want to teach children about Indians

Brief but valuable introduction

This is a guide to better understanding life and how to act and react on the outside world. Author Tahmid Hussain explains that no matter the amount of formal education one might have—the number of book read and courses taken, nothing can replace real-life experiences. The knowledge taken from books is simply second-hand learning. It provides no real insight on ourselves and what we can learn about ourselves. In addition, Husssain indicates there is a notable lack of people using their own thoughts to make changes in their lives and changes in the environment in which they live. I agree whole-heartedly with this concept. Everywhere I look, I see people who are simply acting on the influence they have received from other people around them and even worse, the media. Where are all the original thinkers nowadays? This brief booklet serves as an introduction to series on the topic of Logical Life, with contact information in case you wish to discuss (anonymously) some real life issues you’d like to see addressed in future volumes.
